Driving safe on Memorial Day weekend

It may feel like the middle of the summer already given our recent trend of warm weather. But it is only the last full week of May, meaning that Memorial Day weekend coming.  Known to most people as the  gateway to summer, millions are expected to on the road on Friday to begin the holiday weekend, as well as on Monday as people return home. The heavy volume of traffic increases the chances for an accident.

Most people drive safely, but there are still drivers who don’t make good decisions. In spite of this, drivers can a few things to avoid being in an accident.

Give yourself plenty of time – Being rushed creates the desire to speed up to get to your destination sooner. To avoid this problem, try to give yourself plenty of time and simply enjoy the ride. This especially applies if construction projects tie up traffic.

Put the phone down – Texting and driving is still a big problem in New York, even though you may not see as many PSAs (public service announcements) on distracted driving. As we said before, with more drivers on the road this weekend, there is more of a chance for an accident to occur if a driver is distracted by their phone.

Don’t drink and drive– Most people understand that drunk driving is illegal, but they are ok to drive since they are only “tipsy.” But just like the PSA says, “buzzed driving is drunk driving.” If you have been drinking, call an Uber.

We wish our readers a happy and safe holiday weekend.
