2 killed, several injured in one of state's bad car accidents

A resident of another state is facing serious charges after allegedly causing a wreck that killed two and injured several others. The man was reportedly drinking and driving after leaving a wedding when the accident occurred in Queens, New York. A 34-year-old man and a teenage boy were both killed in that crash. It was just one of the state's bad car accidents this year.

According to the district attorney, the 33-year-old was driving a BMW with five passengers after leaving a wedding in Brooklyn. His car was said to have been traveling 76 miles per hour in a 50-mile-per-hour zone when he attempted to pass another car in the right lane. Instead, he lost control of his car, side-swiping the second car and hitting a third. He and the third car went through the guardrail and ended up in the eastbound lanes, causing more cars to wreck there.

A 16-year-old boy was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 34-year-old man also died from his injuries. Both of them were passengers in the car of the accused. Several others were injured, including a 63-year-old man and a 60-year-old man who were in separate vehicles. After police noted that the driver had bloodshot eyes, and an alcohol smell was coming from the car of the accused, a passenger admitted to police that the driver had been drinking before getting behind the wheel.

Hundreds of people are hurt and killed each year in car accidents caused by drunk drivers in New York. Anyone who has been injured in a similar accident, or who has lost a loved one because of the reckless negligence of another, may choose to consult with a personal injury lawyer. This attorney can guide the victim in how to seek damages in a personal injury or wrongful death suit.
