New York residents never immune from danger of car accidents

New York residents are known for being accustomed to what many would consider unusual events. However, even unflappable New Yorkers are not immune to being affected by tragedies such as car accidents. Recently, an early morning gathering turned chaotic after another terrifying collision.

According to police, several residents in an area of Brooklyn had gathered to celebrate a Jouvert Party, which is a daybreak or morning celebration, during the recent Labor Day holiday. As the revelers enjoyed their pre-dawn celebration, video cameras located in the area recorded the approach of a fast-moving vehicle, traveling in the group's direction. The driver of the car then veered onto the sidewalk and headed straight for the party-goers.

At least six people were injured when the vehicle plowed into the crowd. While the nature and severity of most of the injuries were not detailed, there were reports that indicated at least one victim was critically injured. According to witnesses and the surveillance video, the vehicle's headlights were not on as it hurtled down the pedestrian walkway. Several people were forced to scramble out of the way.

The driver reportedly fled the scene with a missing tire. He was later located, arrested and now faces several serious charges related to this terrifying incident. The New York residents who were injured in this horrific ordeal may face a long recovery, leaving them unable to work and provide for their families. Along with the medical costs, they may sustain significant monetary damages from the associated loss of income. When individuals are injured as a result of car accidents caused by the actions or negligence on the part of another party, they may seek information regarding the filing of a civil suit in an effort to recover their financial losses.
