New York car accidents: Mom killed, boy injured at bus stop

While most people in New York know of the risk they take when they use roadways -- either in a commercial or private vehicle -- most feel relatively safe while standing on the sidewalk. Unfortunately, a recent crash may have some people questioning whether they too may be involved in car accidents while waiting for the bus. A young boy was seriously injured in the accident while his mother was killed.

Slip-and-fall accidents: Fall in store results in injuries

In New York, business and property owners are required to keep their property and businesses safe for all those who legally visit. Many financial challenges are present for store and business owners today, so repairs or maintenance may sometimes be delayed in an attempt to save money. Unfortunately, this may result in hazardous conditions that could potentially cause injuries to patrons. Slip-and-fall accidents are not only increasing in New York but also across the country.

Complacency often the cause of construction workers' accidents

Too many fatal falls occur on construction sites in New York. Sadly, the complacency of some supervisors and employees causes many construction workers' accidents. If workers disregard safety regulations for years without suffering injuries, they will continue to do so, and set that example for new workers joining the crew. Before long there will be some potentially life-threatening hazards that will not be addressed because they are no longer considered as dangers.

Settlement of $3.5 million awarded to victim of brain injury

New York and many other states around the country must utilize snowplows in the winter months to clear their roads and highways. Certainly, specific training must be given to the drivers of such vehicles to ensure safe operations. Unfortunately, a mistake in the operation of a snowplow led to a catastrophic brain injury and other traumas to a man in another state over two years ago. It was reported recently that this state agreed to settle a lawsuit less than two weeks before the trial was scheduled to begin.

Keeping your cookouts safe

You may be among the many New Yorkers who grill over the summer. Cookouts on lovely summer weekends or evenings with friends or family can be a great source of fun and fond summer memories.
